About us
Interact Media Defined (IMD) was launched in 1995 starting as Plumbing Africa (Pty) Ltd, followed by Pipe Trades Media Group (Pty) Ltd after our acquisition of Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (now RACA Journal) and other print titles. In 2002 we acquired Mining and Travelling Exhibitions (MTE) from Tony Whiteman, who had been running MTE for several years before. In 1996 we acquired the stand alone Plumbing and Engineering Exhibition to become PlumbDrain Africa.
IMD Conferences, Exhibitions and Workshops was formed in 2021 to provide its own identity in the business of exhibitions and the events around exhibitions like workshops and conferences.
The company now includes Mining And Technical Exhibitions (MTE), Plumbing Travelling Exhibitions (PTE) and FRIGAIR Africa where we are appointed by the owners, SA Institute of Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, (SAIRAC), to organise this event which occurs every third year.
IMD continues to engage with the electronic media offering as it develops, and one could say we are now a database management company that has a number of promotional opportunities to offer marketers in the areas of Plumbing, Water, Mining, HVAC&R, Refrigeration, Affordable Housing and Timber Construction.
Our extensive and ongoing reader/user registration programmes coupled with the advantage of being a multi-disciplinary media company where figures are independently audited by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) provides IMD with a solid base to operate in these areas of media.
Events
The PTE event, as with MTE, is intended to provide marketers with the opportunity to engage with Plumbers, Contractors, Wet Service Engineers, Facility Management companies, Municipal authorities through a hands-on ‘SEE. FEEL. TOUCH’ activity and to learn, through workshops, the correct way of designing and installing the fast changing technology, and to ask questions.

Plumbing Travelling Exhibitions (PTE), aka PlumbDrain Africa, has moved from the static exhibition concept to take plumbing to areas in South Africa that are not always exposed to the fast moving technology that is mechanical and plumbing.
Built on the success of our Mining and Travelling exhibition company, MTE, which has 29 years of experience in travelling exhibitions, the time has come to expand our offering differently, and appreciate that we need to go to the visitor and not the other way round.
With our own equipment and trucks using only the best shell scheme and specially designed tents for hot areas, we are well equipped to run such exhibitions.
Our 100% control of the exhibition allows us to fully enforce our long-standing policy of only having SANS approved suppliers/manufacturers exhibit, in relation to the compulsory standards. This policy has applied in Plumbing Africa for many years.
The PlumbDrain exhibition was first launched in 1996 and then co-located with AfriBuild for a number of years.
It now makes sense to take plumbing technology to the areas rather than visitors having to travel to Jo’burg, when many of the potential visitors in these areas cannot make the journey because of work commitments.
By “going to the heart of the areas” we achieve the important objective played by the plumbing, engineering, municipal and training disciplines in their areas.
